Greetings,
Wow what a past week it has been at the day job! I can say that I'm really glad that last week is over. I started oncall duty today but my hope is that this week will be a quiet and productive week at work. Did a bit of yard work around the house, cleaned up some of the garden spot, and I'm still enjoying fresh hot peppers out of my garden. The best peppers I grew and ate from this year is Dragon Cayenne. Oh what a wonderful pepper it is! Even makes a really good homemade hot sauce! Went to the liver doc on Thursday and said that he was really happy with my weight loss and my overall results were very favorable. So good news for me and I don't have to see him again for another 6 months, but I have 25 more pounds to lose before my next appointment. :o My hope and prayer is that I am able to get past the weight "stall" that I usually seem to reach at around 255 pounds. I'm at 258.2 pounds right now and I started off at 285. The LOML and I are still going to the gym but we are continually making changes to our eating habits and portion sizes. We are both feeling better and are able to do more without being worn out at the end of the day.
We are now at week 8 of the 9 week Financial Peace University get out of debt course and we are really making some awesome progress. In about 3 weeks from today, we will pay off debt #3 and we are truly excited about seeing the "light at the end of the tunnel".

Looking forward to cooler weather later this month and that means that I'll be getting back in my shop to get some things made that I've been planning on for some time now.

That's it for me.....Happy Labor Day to you and what did YOU do this past week?

Best of weeks to you all.

'Glad you've made great progress on that weight loss, Dennis! Keep up the good work!

This past week was "short" on woodworking as I had a planned short hop to central Florida to check in on my mother as I hadn't done that since May when my father passed away. The visit went well and I had the opportunity to go through about 8 massive photo albums, mining for pictures that would be useful for the family tree stuff I've been doing on Ancestry dot com. Fascinating, I tell you. Fascinating!

This week I have a small order to file for a local photographer friend...I make a certain size of photo panel for her that she cannot buy from her mass market supplier. Apparently, the size sold well as she's back for more only a couple months after the first order. :) And in line with my "hammer sees everything as a nail" thread in CNC, I'm going to be cutting the miters on the CNC to be able to speed up filling her orders in the future, which cuts my cost (pardon the pun) further. I have some development work to do on a collaboration with another 'Creeker to get back to after this work is done and some furniture projects that I want to get started on.

I got this thing back together and ready to wire up.
Combined pump and motor from one compressor that had a junk tank with a 120 gallon one I picked up.
Just did this before lunch today though. 392762

Busy week. I've been working on a fixed height podium using elm, and what a difficult wood! Easily torn out, just a pain - but hey, it's almost together and wood filler helps.
Needed to cut a piece to size, did something stupid on the table saw, and scratched a finger as it kicked back. Had to make a new piece, but my finger's fine. Both the top and base are live edge, where the wood split in drying are held together with teak butterflies and well as the two smooth edging having thin teak banding.
Now it's finishing touches. Tomorrow I'll cut the mortises for the uprights and see about finishes.
Cleaned the gutters on the south side of the house and installed the metal anti - leaf metal covers there. I'll have to modify the 5" ones for the front of the house because the north side has 4" units.
Hand digging out the creeping Charlie in the back yard takes 2 hours each day for the last 3 days, and then I get to re-seed before the winter rains. Just another few days on my hands and knees. I've filled a 350 litre garden waste recycling container, too.
The kid wanted to sleep in a tent in the back yard, but of course didn't have time to help take it down. Yup, my job.
We put up a small amount of dill cukes, about 65 lbs. and I've been checking them for mould and water loss - took them into the cellar Friday for storage.
With the wife feeling a little tired, I told her I'd help with the cooking for the upcoming holidays, so both the BBQ and the smoker are going to be working overtime this week.
Happy labour day.

We have a lot of elm in my area as well. The fiber reminds me of pulled pork.

Finishing the taboret I made my wife. So not much else in the shop. Lot of waiting for the finish to dry. So humid in my shop that finishing can be a real challenge. Definitely installing a mini split in my garage before next spring.

I need to work on losing a bit of weight, myself. Thanks for the reminder to pay more attention to my portion sizes!

In other news... I've been finally building some under-bench storage for one area of my basement workshop to get all these tools off of my bench top. Got a small shelf and a chest of drawers that I'm working on. Still waiting on drawer slides to arrive. Haven't gotten drawers made, yet, as my parents have been in town for a visit. I hope to start working on drawers this next week.
