View Full Version : Getting closer to a finished project

Finally got around to adding the right angle pieces of maple to the mitre station/bench top I'm building. The red and white dots you see cover the lag screws I'm using to hold it all together. I always try to use a couple of mediums in my projects and this is another example. The holes are for locating the miter station stop. They are also used for bench dogs.

In the future I'll add a couple of bowtie inlays, more for decoration than strength. I've got a picture in my mind of the rails on a pool table and that is what the plastic inserts is all about. I couldn't get my hands on an elephant tusk for Ivory:)

The vice is a Jet? (came in a box marked Jet) 9" quick release vice. I don't know how I ever got along without it. Been using a shop mate all this time:(

I still have to top the melamine with masonite. I'm using it as a sacrificial material. This bench top is going to be used to build things and I don't want to worry about the finish. If it gets to rough I'll replace it.

All in all it's been about a 2yr journey. I still have to face frame the lower section and add doors to complete it.

Thanks for looking,

Jim

looks good Jim! I have that same vice on my bench/ its a good value.
Mine had a jet sticker on it as well. I bought mine at the Woodsmith store in Des Moines.
