You don't say where you're coming from and only generally what you're looking for, so it's hard to guess.... But what Prashun wrote for woodworking. Also, for Japanese kitchen knives & gadgets Korin (http://korin.com/) in NYC has a cult destination reputation.

I think for Grammercy you really mean Tools for Working Wood. Joel, the owner, has a blog and recently wrote about Visiting TFWW (https://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/store/blog/1092/title/Empire%20State%20Building,%20Statue%20of%20Liberty ,%20Ground%20Zero%20---%20and%20Tools%20for%20Working%20Wood?). Also, if you read past entries, Joel often talks about woodworking related things to do in NYC that are off the mainstream. (One I recall was a small exhibit, that didn't really catch his attention, held in space with incredible architectural moldings.)

In Toronto, Lee Valley tools covers the woodworking and household gadget thing pretty well.

Depending upon where you're from maple syrup may be something special...........Rod.

Thank you to everyone for your posts I am travelling from the United Kingdom

With the current dollar pound exchange rate and Sorby, Hamlet ,Henry Taylor,Crown Ashley Iles, and flinn-garlic all being located within 60 miles and a branch of Axminster tools 20 miles from my home it would make sense for woodworker from the US or Canada to adopt me

Also check out Green-Wood Cemetery if you head to TFWW in Brooklyn. Right by the 25th Street R Train stop.
