Hi Guys,
I need a source for double sided tape.
I need it to be in a sheet, not a roll and at least 12 inches by 6 inches.
I also need it to be as inexpensive as possible, looking at 100,000 a year
that size.....

I don't know about the sheet part, never asked about that. But we've worked with Bron tapes here before. They do commercial level sales and pricing, and their tapes have worked very well. If nothing else, they're nice, knowledgeable and they can talk you through what they can offer, and what will or won't work for storage and long term use.

2nd Bron, they have an outlet about 8 miles from me. They cut their tape from long rolls, and they'll do anything you ask, as long as they can--

Delvies (also in town) uses 24" wide rolls of the 3M ADA stuff to apply to Rowmark on the fly. I mention this only to say that you can order tape in 6" or 12" wide rolls and dispense it as you need it on the fly.

Years ago there was a product called "Stickyback" that they used at NASA Langley that was great stuff. It came in pre-cut sheets or large rolls and it was very thin. The adhesive was strong and it was basically a clear sheet once the paper was removed. We used a lot of this adhesive sheet back then but I never knew what company made the stuff. Maybe a Google search will come up with a source.

Try Johnson Plastics.

Try Johnson Plastics.

If he's ordering 100,000 I would go with someone that specializes in tape. Johnson Plastics wouldn't even be on my list.

Just as a reference-

I found a place that sells a 12" wide x 180 yard long roll of 3M clear double sided (468MP),
price is $744 for one, $714 for 3---

--found another place online that sells a 12" x 60 yard roll of 3M 467MP, which is what Delvies puts on my Rowmark (the 468 is thicker)-
price is $262 per roll, but buy 4 rolls the price drops to $191...

based on a 60 yard roll, you're going to need 555 rolls to get your 100,000 sq feet...! http://www.engraver1.com/gifs/nilly.gif

-- for that much quantity, you need to search out manufacturers rather than sellers, as you'd be buying multiple times more than most of their wholesalers!

And for what it's worth, I found on Amazon, a ONE square foot piece of 467 or 468 (ad says 467, tape itself says 468) for the bargain price of $15.22, discounted from the $19.00 list price! Sheesh...

He only would need 278 rolls of 12inch x 60 yard roll

Keith

You're right. I should have read more carefully.

Hey guys, OP specifically asked for sheet not roll.

Both manufacturers 3M and Orafol have a sheets 24" x 36" size , I have never come across Tesa tapes in sheet form but contacting them may be good option.

Maybe if I explain it will help. LaserBits used to sell a molded backing for laser cut license plates. Johnsons bought them out and now you can't get them.
I started my own molding operation a couple years ago and I was thinking about building a mold and making them again. BUT I have to get the cost down and I need to apply the adhesive. I was going to use my lasers to cut out the plate shape on the tape...that's why I wanted a sheet and not a roll.

You might consider a roll system to apply facing to the tape/carrier backing and then cut to size.

This is what I was thinking as well. The only real difference I see from the roll to the sheet for storage is the roll is cheaper to produce, because you don't need backing on both sides of the tape during storage.

Out of curiosity, did Bron have anything they could offer you or was that a dead end for this Brian?

Strouce is sending samples. Seems time consuming to unroll, apply tape to another backing, make sure it's flat then cut. 100,000 times...
If all goes well I may have to get a machine made to apply the tape somehow...

You're right, I was factoring 12x12", not 12x6"... :)

They are pros at what they do. We did a job that was laser cutting the drapes from the U.S. Senate into pieces. The customer sent all the pieces of the drapes to them and they applied the adhesive backed sheets and shipped them to us. They were perfectly done. Those people know their industry. First class operation.
