Wife and I were watching Rough Cut and Tommy was cutting a bridle joint. She asked why it was called a bridle joint? Ahhhhh..........I don't know. I left it at that!

It’s a bridle joint, not a bridal joint. Similar to a horse bridle in my
mind.

A bridle joint is similar to "a length of line or cable attached to two parts of something (such as a ship) to spread the force of a pull; especially : rigging on a kite for attaching line." A bridal joint is either (a) a chapel, church, synagogue, mosque or (b) something you smoke at the reception.

You left out (c) a store where wedding dresses and other wedding stuff is sold and where brides gather, preferably with their friends, to plan how to spend all the money budgeted for the wedding.

Like others, I think of the mouth of a horse with a bridle through it when I think of this joint.

And Rhys, for you to confuse people properly, you would need to ask one of your unmarried female friends to send the invitations to your bridle party.

How is it that they get called brides when not one of them will wear a bridle!

(You don't have my bride's e-mail address, right???)
