Hi -

Not a joke - I have 10 free "somethings" to give away at the end of the month....

To get one - you must:

1) be in North America
2) post a picture of your circular saw, or track saw, to this thread, with a piece of paper saying "Yes pls Rob!" in the photo.
3) only enter once
4) Not reside in Quebec (sorry – I WANT to give you something, but the law says no…)

If you are in the first 10 picture posters in this thread - pls email me your preferred shipping address at rlee@leevalley.com , and I'll look after the rest!

Cheers,

Rob

I know I am not in the first 10 but here is my circular saw and my track saw.

First you see my circular saw. This is of course filed rip. Key here is matching the correct tooth pitch to the sales circular thickness.

Mine is waiting for me in the city and I'm waiting for word on when to pick it up. I saw the email Rob sent to the store telling them to set it aside and it had a stock number so I looked it up! :) Website says no such number so I don't have a clue on what it will be. :( Rob did ask me to keep it to myself until the end of the month so I will honour that gentlemanly request. Hi Peter -

Congrats - you are the first to have one, outside of the firm!

It's not a major unveiling, it's just that we're still in the throes of distributing inventory, and finalizing treatments for the stores.....

It (and they?) will be in the main Catalog, which will be available sometime near the end of the month.

I hope you find yours as indispensable as I've found mine!

Triple decker BLT with mayo, is it a tomato slicer?

Peter Christensen
08-16-2018, 5:06 PM
No but if you had added salt you would have had your mineral and covered all your bases. ;)

It is not a flashy spendy thing that will have others doing a Boxing Day/Black Friday camp outside and trample puppies and kids to get to but it is a simple, practical thing that we will get use of. Sure could have used it a year and a half ago.

I’m pleased and hope Rob does this again.

Van Huskey

Oh and no salt, (blood pressure).

The newest long-term studies show low sodium diets have the same (or more) deleterious impact on blood pressure as high sodium diets. In fact, the largest study found the subjects with the highest blood pressure had the lowest intake of sodium and potassium and the inverse was also true.

Todd Bender

I leave it to my tastebuds to monitor my salt intake.

Doug Garson
08-17-2018, 3:50 PM
Thanks Van, Googled salt and high blood pressure and found one of the studies which I think you are referring to. Interesting how many of the things we grew up believing turn out to not be true, like eating fat does not make you fat.

Peter Christensen
08-17-2018, 5:25 PM
Doug a year and a half ago we had just got into our new house and there was lots for me to do.

I don’t add salt to anything since there is way more in the food than we need even if you avoid restaurants and premade foods. Had Kidney stones and the stone specialist said kidneys are lazy. It is easier for them to filter everything and put the salt back in the blood and dump the minerals. Less salt and more minerals go back into the blood. Up side is your tools don’t get rusty when you touch them. ;).

Disclaimer. I’m in no way a medical professional and anything I say can be taken with a grain of salt. :)

Huh, well I guess if one needs a portable sacrificial grid that's a nice idea, but personally if I'm cutting on the floor with my track saw my 4x8 sheet of 2" insulation foam has been perfect for the last couple years and I think it was ~$15 at Home Depot.

Also, looks like if one wanted to go metal these might be a good option: LINK (https://www.amazon.com/Sentry-Supply-650-6419-U-Bracket-1-Inch/dp/B00DUQ9ZB6)

I can see where this might be useful for both portability and storage, given that many folks don't have the best situation to store a big piece of insulation foam as an alternative method, even when it's cut into sections.

I would consider buying for exactly this reason. Storing a couple boards is a lot easier than foam I use currently.

Matt Day
08-22-2018, 9:24 PM
Huh, I was hoping for more I guess. If I had space concerns and couldn’t store a 4x8 sheet of insulation, I’d probabaly just lay down some 1x’s or 2x’s, adjust my depth of cut, and cut away. Suppose the LV method is smoother and fancier though.

Thank you, Rob!
UPS just dropped off my 'major award', postmarked from my wife's home town, and it looks like something I'll actually use. I don't have a lot of shop space and (to save my back) usually end up breaking down sheet goods as soon as I bring them home. Sometime I can cut manageable pieces by sliding the sheet part way off the back of my pickup or if I need long pieces, slid off the back off the truck onto saw horses in the driveway. This will store in less space than foam and, if I set it up on sawhorses (using 2x4's as a base) there will be room to use my track saw clamps to keep the track from wandering and it will still be strong/straight enough to crawl around on. Rob, thanks again for your continued support here.

Pete, Care to share? My first thought was to use something like this to hold hardwood bed slats in a vertical position to eliminate the need for center support on queen/king size beds. (Rob, put your product developers on this and send me a free set when you launch:D)

Peter Christensen

I think when glueing they could hold the boards up to keep pipe clamps from touching.

Richard Verwoest
08-23-2018, 12:20 PM
If you are using the Veritas guide, 2 inch foam board does not work. The larger clamps are not large enough, plus with the way they lock down, they just crush the foam. These are a great solution when coupled with the guide.

Rich Engelhardt

Outstanding - simple & effective!
I can see a set of these in my immediate future.

I've been looking for a good light easy to stow solution to the problem of using a cordless track saw in the parking lot where I pick up sheet goods.

This should be just the ticket!

Jim Becker
08-23-2018, 2:06 PM
I think when glueing they could hold the boards up to keep pipe clamps from touching.

You could also have alternative cross pieces that have half-rounds to keep the clamps from moving laterally. 'Just need to be sure the whole assembly is level first.

Wow! Not even a groan from the Peanut Gallery.

Thankfully, Rob appreciates a play on words. :) I am grateful that Rob (and this top 10 giveaway) "goes to eleven".

To some of the naysayers I say "cool it with the negative waves", there are quite a few opportunities beyond the cutting rack for these. I can see a slab surfacing router jig with this, among other things.

Same issue with the ez smart track. They launched it for a reason. May not be for you, but I think it’s nifty. This is a good portable solution for me. Not only for breaking down sheet goods, but also as low saw horses. Reminds me of low Japanese saw horses.

Yup that’s them. Black Fox is the other and they make the world’s best gin. At least that’s what the sign says about the award. I don’t drink gin so didn’t pay close attention. They do make some nice Wheat Vodka. Makes sense for the area to have craft distilleries with all the grain around here. :) To beastly cold for grapes. But we digress.

I had my first opportunity to break down some plywood today using the Veritas Panel Platform Kit. In the past, I had used the foam insulation trick and never was happy with having to find a place to store it as I don't break down a lot of plywood. The platform kit is a lot easier to store and to transport, and it does work well. It's a little on the pricey side for what comes in the kit, but I expect it is a worthwhile investment if this is something one would use on a regular basis. Thanks for the giveaway Rob!
