Two years ago I purchased a Craftsman router with a plunge base and a fixed base. When moving this last winter I misplaced the 1/2" collet for my router. I ordered a replacement collet from Sears Parts Direct. It got back ordered for a month and then cancelled. With Craftsman in limbo right now, the part is not available ANYWHERE! When I call customer service to speak to someone it is a total joke because all I get is "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" spoken in barely audible English. I honestly feel like I am totally screwed. I went with Craftsman to keep this very thing from happening. Do any of you have any words of wisdom? I built a router table with a homemade adjustable router lift and I would like a separate router just to keep in the router table. The part number for the collet is in this link:

https://www.searspartsdirect.com/part-number/2823121000/0009/320.html?sid=eml:trans:status:BO&utm_source=trans& utm_medium=em&utm_campaign=pd-sc

The Router I would like is model 27683 but just the router itself without the bases. As a last resort I guess I can buy the whole set again.

A few of the Craftsman routers were made by Bosch. If you post a pic we may be able to identify the actual mfr. and point you in the right direction.

Have you tried ereplacments.com (https://www.ereplacementparts.com/?source=gaws&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpt_4xqrY3AIVkiOBCh0FcwmMEAAYASAA EgLMDPD_BwE)? they have lots of parts for appliances and tools.

Try the Elaire Corp. Even though their site does not list Craftsman routers, they might have some information as to where one might be found. Elaire: http://elairecorp.com/routercollets.html

I would make a new one, but I have a metal lathe in the shop. A friend with a lathe or a local machine shop could probably make one easily, even easier if you have another size collet to get the dimensions.

I have tried them and it's the same situation with them. I have found refurbished routers by Sears on the Sears Outlet website but they do not ship items because the customer needs to visually verify the condition. I am going to look for used or refurbished Routers of the same model. Thanks for your response.

Have you checked local CL postings? I frequently see many routers for sale on Cincinnati site.

The picture found in the link provided is quite similar to my Bosch stuff. I remind I read somewhere (perhaps in amazon Q&A for that part) they are the same. It is cheap and if you get it from some place with liberal returns, the risk is virtually zero for losses.

All the best.

Well, I think that my immediate issue is resolved. I found a used identical router at a pawn shop that I will be driving past in a couple of days. I will leave the used router in my router table. That way I don't have to remove it when I need to do hand held routing and that way the alignment stays true. I will still try to find that 1/2" collet and will continue to look in my garage as well as look to see if Bosch has one. Thanks so much for the input. This is a wonderful site and community!

Rob,

I have to ask the obvious question -- do you know (why do you assume) that the collet for your router is unique? Have you tried, say, a porter-cable collet just for giggles?

BTW I have to say I sympathize. I'm an older guy and I remember when Sears had replacement parts for almost any tool, regardless of age.
