A friend got a hold of this chunk of walnut with the idea that we could get some useful pieces out of it. It looks to be half of a round cut off. Any suggestions on what it could be used for and how best to cut/resaw it? It is about 2' on the long axis. The pictures are the four sides rotated clockwise. If I cut it lengthwise I'm going to end up with planks of endgrain.

None of your links are resolving, so it's hard to provide an opinion.

Should be fixed now.

Thanks.

To get any usable wood, unless you want some turning blanks, you need to cut parallel to the grain which is going to give you really short pieces. You need a really large band saw to do that with that piece of wood.

That's what I was afraid of. I turn pens but not bowls. I know i could get a 100 pen blanks out of it. Maybe some interesting castings from that middle section. Maybe this is an excuse to try turning a bowl.
