Has anyone ever inverted their random orbit sander and mount it somewhere? I put mine in the vice and sanded some narrow pieces. Worked pretty good except for the vibration that is still in my hands.
I wonder if this is a reasonable thing to do or if it is hard on the sander.

Other than possibly damaging the case from pressure in the vise, I don't think the sander will care since you can certainly sand the underside of an installed shelf or cabinet top.

I do it, but it's held gently but firmly with rubber covered pads in my vise. I even made a jig that held 2 sanders with different grits. I pushed hundreds of feet of 1/4" x 2" x 10' long strips thru it.

I think it was Delta that made a bench mounted inverted random orbit sander. Didn’t sell for many years I don’t think.

Sort of. It does come in handy for giving a ROS treatment to end or difficult grain while retaining a good square edge.

Once again, Glenn Bradley with the excellent "Been There, Done That" jig. :)

Yup! Another good idea of yours that I'm likely to copy, Glenn!

I think I may borrow that idea as well
