Hi folks,

I wanted to try the new Proforme hollowing tool yesterday so I grabed a wormy, spalted blank from John Hart. It took me a while to figure out the tool and it also required some honing where it shouldn't have needed it (inside of the J, used a diamond cone hone) but once I got it sharp it cut pretty well. The inside of the bowl was turned at about 150 rpm using the Proforme....I'm still a real rookie with this tool.

I just put some oil on it and buffed it today. Here it is from a couple of different angles. Thanks for lookin.

A bowl made from wood with a lot of character, you gave it a good form, finish and cute little bottom. Nicely done, Bill!:D

Great looking bowl Bill- Nice to save wood and not have sweep it all! Thanks for posting and the info on the new tool. :)

How many of those little suckers did you decapitate? The last time I did one of those, I had worm guts all over my face shield.

Your bowl turned out beautiful.

Bill, I have no idea what a Proforme tool is, but it looks like you didn't experience much of a learning curve with it. Works as good as John's "Ugly Stick"! :D Nice job! I always find wormy spalted wood hard to turn because of the varying wood density.

Thanks all.

Bruce, they had all previously met their demise, nothing but powder.

Carole, the Woodcut Proforme is really a derivative of a circle cutting tool. It is designed for end grain hollowing. It cuts by slicing (pealing) the wood rather than scraping. It left virtually no tearout.

I'm not sure it is best suited for bowl hollowing but I wanted to try it out and I still need loads of practice and technique work.

Here's an article (http://www.fholder.com/Woodturning/proforme.pdf) on it.

Thanks

Lol at "John's ugly stick". That thing IS ugly too. When the picture came on I sat back and went, "Whoa!"

Hey hey hey!!! That's my Lil' Darlin' yer talkin' about there!!

(She is ugly though....shhhh) :D

Hey Bill...That Proforme's a pretty cool lookin' gadget. One of my biggest problems is the one of taking too big of a bite (and getting whacked in the face). That guard is a tremendous idea! Too cool. I wonder if I can make one those things?
