Buying drawer boxes for cabs ?

Hello everyone

I am in the process of building a house. I am planning on building the kitchen cabinets and vanities myself. I’m also doing a lot of the other finish work, so time is an issue. I have been thinking about buying the drawer boxes for the cabinets and installing the hardware myself. Has anyone done this on a kitchen project? Where are some places to get boxes? What are some things to lookout for? Are there any other pointers?

john, there are companies that can not only sell you the drawer boxes in kit form but the entire kitchen flat in box. raised panel doors bored or mortised as you spec. cabinet boxes dadoed and drilled out of whatever material you desire. and here`s the catch most of the time the parts will cost you less than if you buy your material at retail prices. the only thing you`ll gain by doing it yourself is the ability to grain match your panels. tod

There are quite a few companies that do this. Here in southern California, cabinetmakers (in general) don't make drawers anymore. It is just plain cheaper to outsource them.

You can just buy the drawer sides and that saves a lot of time...
If you let them do too much...then they build and install the kitchen..

I see in my latest Rockler catalog that they offer the service. just search your area for cabinet parts you should find plenty

what style of drawer box are you interested in. drawer boxes sell for anywhere from $15-$48 ea.....jack
