There was a thread on another forum about buying a good set of steak knives and I thought "why not make them?" High speed steel would make a good blade, but anyone know where to find the rivets to hold the handle to the knife?

I've purchased acorn nuts (rivet like nuts that get sanded flat ) from Jantz Supply:

Incidentally, they probably have knife blanks like you're looking to make as well.

An acceptable alternative to rivets is to find brass rod stock the same diameter as the holes in the knife blank, then drill the handle stock (slabs) to match. Mix up some 5 min. epoxy and glue the handle slabs on to the blank and brass pins, (clamp well) then sand the handles down to the profile you like. I've made a few from both scratch and kits and most of the kit blades are better than you will find short of Hinkles or Sabiter (sp?).

Thanks for the sources. I think this may be one of my next projects. Well after the kitchen chairs, side board, bedroom set...you get the picture
