so I saved half of it and now I have a folding yard stick.

A side light, I used to have a 8 ft. folding rule, I think I will look for another.

I also have a Stanley No. 68 and a Stanley No. 84. The 84 has a brass strip on one edge.

Here is one source for the 8 footer, https://www.amazon.com/Lufkin-X48N-Wood-Slide-Extension/dp/B00002N7Q5/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1525269456&sr=8-2&keywords=lufkin+8%27+folding+ruler

I've used the Lufkin X46 Red End for almost 50 yrs now. I find the 6' a lot easier to deal with than an 8' folder. My current X46 has the hook and the slide

I have seen a few folding rules at Lowes for around $7-8. At least they had them a few years ago. It would give you a chance to check out the quality before buying one.

We used to use the 6' all the time at work. We would use the "Inside" read ones and modified them with a folding hook on the end. Kind of like using a tape measure. And it was a Bad day when you broke your rule and had to make a new one. Now we just use tape measures...

I've carried a 6 footer around the shop for 40 years - starting to get hard to read so i am about to order a new one. (Highland Woodworking has the 6ft Lufkin with a folding hook)

My Dad told me more than once to never walk with a folding rule without folding it first.
