Hello everyone,
this is my first post. I am planning to build a
Townsend and Goddard secretary desk.
I would appreciate any information like photos, web sites, articles, etc. that could help me to build this desk.
Also, I am very interested to have a digital copy of these
two pages.
Plate No. 87-88 of "Masterpieces of Furniture" by Verna Cook Salomonsky.
Many thanks in advance
Alfredo

Alfredo:

check out this link:

this is the Chipstone collection in Wisconsin that has lots of pictures and details. They have a few Newport pieces there.

You may also want to look up Wallace Nutting's "Furniture Treasury" for lots of good pictures.

Many thanks for your answers.
I have been in contact with P. Michael Henderson.
He advices me to join this forum. He has been
a very kind and helpful man. I consider his web site
ia very interesting point to start my pproject.
Being more specific I want to build a secretary like
one of these photos
http://www.theballandclaw.com/jt_secretaire_closed_300dpi.jpg (http://www.theballandclaw.com/jt_secretaire_closed_300dpi.jpg)

I read that Cook's book has general secretary dimensions
in these two plates.
Any information other help would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance

Alfredo,
I just ordered "Masterpieces of Furniture". I should have it next week. So if you haven't found the drawings you're after, I should be able to scan something for you.

Two sources come to mind. First is Michael Moses' Master Craftsmen of Newport. It's out of print, so you may want to find one through a library, unless you have the $2,000 that Jeffrey Greene wants. The other is the recently published book by Morrison Hecksher John Townsend Newport Cabinetmaker.

I also recommend a pilgramage to a museum or two that have Goddard Townsend pieces in their collections. There is nothing like having your own photos of details, and first hand impressions are valuable.

I already got the copies. Many thanks to John for his offering and
Steve for his advice.
Surely, I am going to return here with another question.
Any other secretary contruction information will be appreciated.
Best regards

Many thanks to Bruce and John for their advices.

I have read the thread
http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=19366&highlight=kneehole
It is a inspiring project and many congratulations to Alan Turner.

I knew about the SAPFM. However, I have a problem to be connected
with this web site, even to send a e-mail to its webmaster.
P. Michael Henderson forwarded a help message to him
and until now, I can not be connected.

I know in that forum are connected people who had built the secretary
desk and surely they would help if somebody asks for their help, but I can not reach them.

I am in the process of collecting information to make a secretary draft.
Also I am doing my first steps to carve a 14 flute shell.

I would appreciate photos, web sites, draws, advice that help me to build this secretary desk.

Many thanks

PS1 Many thanks Michael

Regarding Alfredo's problem with accessing the SAPFM site - it appears that his Internet Service Provider (ISP) is not resolving the SAPFM.org domain name to an IP address correctly. I pinged SAPFM.org to get the IP address but when I use that IP address, I do not get connected to the SAPFM site. E-mails to the SAPFM webmaster have not helped (the webmaster doesn't respond).

If you know of a relay site in the US that Alfredo can use to access the SAPFM site, please let me know. And if you have any other ideas about how he might access the SAPFM site, let me know that also.

Does any body has Home Furniture magazine from Spring 1995, vol 2.?

The thread
www.sapfm.org/sapfmforum/ topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1057&ARCHIVE= - 38k
it is commented that in this magazine there is an article on Allen Breed's making the Nicholas Brown tall secretary.
I hope somebody has this magazine and can send a digital copy
of this article.
Many thanks in advance
Alfredo
