While straightening my office from Hurricane Harvey disarray, I ran across my copy of George Grotz's book, The Furniture Doctor.
I had forgotten about it. It tells you how to acquire, refinish, or repair old furniture. I find it to be a good book to have in my
collection of books.

Years ago, when I was a DYI home handyman, somebody gave me a copy of another Grotz book, From Gunk to Glow: The Gentle Art of Refinishing Antiques and Other Furniture. It was the beginning of what became a lifelong interest in wood finishing. It is a treasure of sage advice about refinishing, written in a humorous, easy to read style. I especially enjoyed the chapter on antiquing, which involves the use of tire chains.
