I have a 2HP Shopfox dust collector, and I connect it to each tool as I work. I just bought a Wen oscillating spindle/belt sander to replace the Rigid one I had that lasted a year and half. The Wen has a 1 1/2" port. If I connect that to the dust collector, does the reduction from 4" to 1 1/2" create a strain on the motor? Should I open the vent mechanism on the Dust Right handle I use to allow more air flow? Or............

Quite the opposite - the motor does the least work when moving the least amount of air.

It won't stress the motor at all; in fact, just the opposite. However, it won't suck very effectively. A vacuum is probably a better choice; unless you can open the port on the Wen up.

huh. Thanks guys. Yes, I'm going to try to open it up. And maybe try the shop vac and see which works better.

opening even a 1.5" port to a 2.5" port will make a dramatic improvement in dust collection

I agree that a shop vac is a better option with small dust ports. The significantly higher suction with a vacuum over a dust collector makes it better.

Yea, I use a shop vac for my Delta OSS. most of the time, although I do have a port to connect it to the cyclone if I want to. But that machine has a larger port than the one you mention.
