Not the sphere but the baseball seam and stitching. How did Carter get the nice smooth lines ? Also on the Carter page is a basketball with the seams very well done.

By "smooth lines" do you mean how to layout the smooth curve? I made a template. You can cut the cover off a baseball to get an instant template.

If you mean how to make the lines, to me they look done with a woodburner. Mark StLeger made a bent woodburning tip to do the stitching on his baseball box made from a hollowed sphere. (He uses hand-chased threads to hold the two halves together.)
