Greetings all

A couple of weeks ago I posted a picture of a spalted elm burl bowl. Last week I turned the core. I was only able to get two bowls out of the entire chunk because of the spalting, but still it was well worth it. If the wood had been in better shape, I would have been able to do at least three.

This little guy is 7" in diameter and 5" high, and about 3/16" thick. It is finished with Bush Oil and buffed on the outside with a Beall wheel, and hand rubbed with steel wool and Butcher's Wax on the inside.

Here is a rerun of the main bowl if anyone is interested in doing a side by side comparison. It is 10" high and 10" in diameter and about the same thickness as the smaller one. This one is finished with Watco and buffed the same way as the small one.

Thanks for taking a look.

Thanks to John Miliunas' help I can now see Bill's work on SMC and it is just as beautiful on here as it is on other web sites. For some reason I was unable to see his pics and only his pics on SMC. John helped me work through that so that I can enjoy Bill's fine turnings. It was worth the effort. Bill they are very nice.

Thanks guys, and John, I am glad to hear that someone has the knowledge to help the rest of us out. I would have had no idea why they weren't showing up for Mike.

Another beaut Bill. Elm has some really nice grain pattern that I didn't expect on a small piece I found. I like the littlw squiggle lines in it.
