View Full Version : Belt Sander Belts for flattening?

Right now I use Gator or 3M No Load 60 grit glued to plate glass to do the grunt work in sharpening, like re establishing a primary bevel, or grinding out damage.
I get 3 to 5 sheets for about $6.
I can get belt sander belts in a 3 pack for around $11-$14, Gator or Shopsmith brand. I'm wondering if they would last longer in use, long enough to justify approximately double the cost.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you.

I usually just walk into H-F, and walk back out with a handful of the RED sanding belts. They seem to last as long as the others, and the price is right. The Shopsmith one I used...shredded in use on the sander. They want too much cash for what little it does.

Thanks, that's info I can use. I need to make a trip to HF soon anyway.

Do NOT buy the Blue belts...waste of time. Stay with the Red belts.
