Thought I’d finish up this build with a second thread.

The drawer front was something I thought over for some time. After some input from folks here in the design group, the general consensus was to make a single front across both the drawer itself and extend over the small dead space created by the cureved skirt on the back side of the table. Given the drawer will be closed most of the time, it probably makes the most sense.

I cut out and sized the main compenents

Grooves were made for the bottom, back corners dovetailed, front corner half-blind dovetail, and the side where the front extended was M&T.

I decided to put a few removable dividers in the drawer, given their length. So I made the dados with a router plane/chisel, cut out and fit the spacers.

The interior of the drawer was finished with shellac and then the drawers were glued up.

Dovetail joints were planed flat, and drawers got a bit of final fitting into the opening. The front of the drawer needed a slight bit of planing to get a flush fit to the outside of the opening pieces. I’m always happy when the thing slides in and out with a fairly tight fit.

Last step was to complete the kickers. They were planed flat with the top surface. I decided since they will also be holding on the top, that they would be glued and screwed in place. Pilot and countersink holes were drilled.

I then made countersink slots for the screws to hold on the top.

Next was just to apply the finish...shellac and wax.

382323

Top was screwed on and project finished.

I still need to decide on drawer pulls. Probably someting pretty low profile...still working on that. Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks for following.

Thanks John. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not sure I’m in love with the overall scale and dimension...my design sense waivers at times. It strikes me a bit clunkly, but it serves the purpose and my bride likes it, so who I am to argue. Learned a lot doing it, so worth every minute.

Well done! It looks great sitting there. The finish, cilor, and proportions are perfect.

Fine piece, love the drawers. The only slightly odd thing is the prominent straight grain bars on the top that clash with the curve of the piece and the wall. The bottom shelf wavy grain seems a better match for the curve. Feel free to ignore me!

Good work ,Phil. The idea is so good that the piece can not be wrong. To your own comments : Those tables are often several inches taller than standard ,and they often have stone tops to avoid the grain linearity.

Gentlemen, thanks!, I’m with you 100%. I searched like crazy for additional sap wood pieces that would curve more like the shelf, but finally gave up and went with what I had. I swear if someday I walk into a lumber yard or Woodcraft and see something better, it’s coming home with me for a new top.
