I bought a new motor for my bandsaw. It has 6 wires coming out of it (Black, blue, orange yellow, white and red).

What are all the different colors for?

There should be a wiring diagram, either on the nameplate or inside the pecker-head cover. Post a picture of it if possible.

Failing that, look up the wiring diagram on the manufacturer's website.

The colors you list don't 'fit' the typical 6-lead motor patterns.

here's the wiring diagram. I'm not smart enough to understand it.

Based on the diagram, its a 1-phase motor and dual voltage. I have to assume its 120/240VAC.

With LOW voltage feed (120V):
If you want to run it in the 'standard' (STD) direction, connect 1,3,&8 (Blu,Org,Red) to L1 (your incoming power). Then connect 2,4,&5 (Wht,Yel,Blk) to N (your neutral).

If this is the wrong direction, swap the 5 and 8 wires (Blk & Red).

With HIGH voltage feed (240V):
If you want to run it in the 'standard' (STD) direction, connect 1 (Blu) to L1 feed. Then connect 4&5 (Yel&Blk) to L2 feed. Then connect 2,3,&8 (Wht,Org,&Red) together, with no external connection - - just wire-nut the three of them together.

If this is the wrong direction, swap the 5 and 8 wires (Blk & Red).
