I’ve posted 3 others Norway maples, all from the same tree trunk. This one is the deepest at 4 1/2” x 15”. It has considerable patching using ground up bark, and same chunks of bark. One hole, a fair size knot and numerous cracks were filled with the bark. I don’t drink coffee and found bark a better choice anyway. Black is from iron oxide.

Wow, very nice! Beautiful grain in that piece.
You did a great job on the repairs, looks all natural to me.

Very nice. Lots of "character"!
How do you grind up the bark? How fine do you grind it?

I have dry bark from many species of wood. I crush them with a mallet or hammer or whatever. Sort out what will fit in a hole or crack. Some will be fiberous other will be dust. Chunks cand be forced and hammered into holes and voids. Thin super glue it sand. I leave a few small holes and crevices. Looks more natural. I have bark with dark stingy underpayment that crushes into stings and dust. Other like cherry are lighter so I can mix one on top of the other to add contrasts.
