pretty cool Mr. Bond. Now, did you tie that bow tie or did you clip it on??

Mel Fulks
03-18-2018, 8:26 PM
It's all a one piece polyester suit. "Drip dry" is back!

Kind of explains the carpeted workshop.

I beg to differ, Fred, his date is right in front of him. Very dapper, Brian.

Sometimes I get home from work and don't bother changing before going to the shop. I'm an engineer though so the fanciest I get is button up shirts with a sweater. Sure got me beat! I love the cuff links.

Brian Holcombe
03-18-2018, 10:57 PM
Haha, glad you guys enjoyed this one. We got ready for a wedding and so I couldn't resist :D I had planned a video but ran out of time.

A clip on bowtie!?! Not a chance. ;)

The Dapper Woodworker! The Man.. The Legend.

I assume the cufflinks come off, and the embroidered slipper go on, when planing

You are in good company, Brian.

Haha! I have to admit having considered a waistcoat for this work.

Al Launier

So where's the stealthy shoulder holster? Don't leave home without it.

James Pallas

Brian, You should sell that picture to the maker o your band saw for advertising.
Get a nice commission on every sale thereafter!

Must be a pretty high speed camera to catch the blade teeth like they were stopped ;)

Brian has the ability to quickly vibrate the wood against the blade to cut it without turning on a motor. And so the legend grows.

No hearing protection, no dust mask... what kind of slob are you, anyway? :-)

Clearly the secret message being extracted from the inside of the board by Mr. Bond will self destruct...

Brian Holcombe

Hah, this thread has been a lot of fun. You guys have me rollin'!

What can I say, I enjoy your work and your sense of humor, or is that humour.

What adhesive does Brian use? Bond, JBond.

I take my martinis shaken, not stirred.
I take my boards planed, not sanded.

Phil Mueller

For special occasions, Mr Holcombe abhors using common cologne, and prefers the scent of exotic hardwood. Freshly cut of course.

Stanley Covington

I can imagine Brian doing whiskey commercials wearing his tuxedo like Bill Murray in the movie Lost in Translation. And maybe like Jethro Gibbs, he empties out screws from a jam jar on his workbench and pours a drop for himself and his vistors.

A classy guy!

Are you sure he isn't hiding a SuperMax just out of frame there? Brian has fallen to the Dark Side of late, and there's no telling what depths his depravity may reach.

Brian Holcombe
03-23-2018, 2:16 PM
Bah, no sanders. I certainly plan more machines but likely they will be; Sliding table shaper, sliding table saw, Maka mortiser or other mortisers and similar stuff. I would like to bring my metal working tools in house as well, but that's quite unlikely with my current layout. I have a bridgeport mill and a small metal lathe that would be nice to have immediate access to.

Hehe, I love this thread!

John, I'm out in the country, so patterns like gun check, small stripes, tattersal, madras plaid, and big plaids are all in play. I can't help myself but to have a bold stripe now and again.

I am pretty sure there IS a movie series in here:

Dr. Notch
Chiselfinger
Thunderplaner
You Only Measure Twice
On Her Majesty's Shoji Service
Carbides are Forever
Live and Let Dovetail
The Man with the Golden Blockplane
Quantum of Sawdust

....The list could go on.

Malcolm McLeod

And if we want to keep the series fresh and current with recent - - shall we say .....acquisitions-

The Spy Who Lathed Me

(This definitely has possibilities!)

Yeah I was playing off of the fictional Suntory ad that provides the backstory for Lost in Translation...

Kind of ironic it got lost in the interpretation . . . . . but it was a tad bit on the esoteric side; none-the-less, well played, sir. Well played.

Brian Holcombe
03-23-2018, 9:33 PM
Hah, that is well done, he’s wearing a tuxedo in the ad as well.
