Yea I do a lot of fluting with both round nose router bits and V bits. I quit using the V bits because of a couple of problems. Mostlybecause they leave a fuzzy bottom of the V. Not a bad thing if your going to put contrasting wood in the V but if you leave it plain you have to sand which is a pain if you do 36 grooves. Also many V bits are not 90 degrees. The say they are but they don't cut a 90 degree V. I found a Freud V cutter that does cut 90. When you cut a V that isn't 90 you have to cut your blanks to fit whatever angle it is. Usually they are only off about 3 degrees or so which makes it hard to keep track of which corner of you inlay wood is 87 and which is 93. Now I mostly use a straight cutting bit but mount my router ate45 degrees so the corner does the cutting. This leaves a nice clean bottom that doesn't need sanding. It will not cut 90 degrees either because all the bits I've found are recessed across the bottom. Still it works for me, I just cut my inlays to fit what ever angle it ends up being.
