This is a beautiful piece owned by my friend, but I cannot say who or where because he will kill me. He is a collector of West Indian furniture and art.

The piece was made by Haitian artisans in the late 17 or early 1800’s. The wood is Mahogany and beautiful Caribbean Walnut. It has a beeswing quilt to it. Just an amazing piece.

Here is the closeup of the panel.

That is not veneer- it is solid, and the backside is rough hewn and has small wooden tabs across the joint, set with nails. Not sure if the tabs are original to the piece or added later, but certainly they are old.

Delicate feet and drawbored rail and stile.

WOW! That Caribbean walnut resembles highly figured bubinga, but with a beautiful golden brown tone. Anyone know the best way to remove drool from between the keys?

That is a seriously beautiful piece, really does show off skilled craftsmanship and very nice grain pattern on the panels.

Shame you cant make a living out of building pieces like that anymore, well at least most of us cant.
