I have located a 1642 EVS for sale. It is supposedly new and unused although it is assembled and sitting in a shop. It comes with a Barracuda chuck and some other arbors. My best price i can get this for is 2 Grand. Is this a little steep? I know the price has went up on these the past few years and the new model equivalent to this is 2500.00 plus tax. I guess i am wanting someone to talk me into or out of it. Any thoughts on the value of this package. It appears to be it excellent shape just has been sitting unused.
Thanks
Ray

Is it the 115v version? I have two of those, the first I bought new long ago and the second used maybe 3-5 years ago. I don't know today's fair price but I paid $1600 for the used one in good condition and with a few tools. Based on that $2000 does sound a little high but better check around. These are very capable lathes that I used constantly until I got a used PM3520b but now still worth keeping one set up in the shop for students, visitors and special projects.

If it really is new and not kept plugged in for years it might be worth more, but paying $500 more for a new model with new features and new warranty would tempt me.

My thought would be $1500 for the 1.5hp and 1750-1800 for the 2hp, assuming it to be in good shape. Accessories may add some value depending on what they are.

I am curious.... Can the 115 volt version be rewired for 220? I have always thought that 1 1/2 hp motors came standard with wiring options for 115 or 220. I know some 1 hp motors come that way.

I don't think so, since the motor is a 3-phase run by a VFD to get the variable speed and the VFD (at least the ones on mine) are 110v only. You could replace the 110v VFD with a 220v of the proper size or program it to limit the current to that of the motor.

BTW, the 1.5 hp motor on the Jet1642 is apparently only being used at 1 hp. I discovered this when the VFD quit on mine and I was researching a replacement. The program on the VFD limited the current to the motor. I made sure my replacement VFD did not exceed that current in case Jet did that to avoid some motor problem.
