Is it normal for a modern dishwasher to operate in cycles that last just a few minutes?

A house I'm involved with has a Kenmore Elite model 665.13922K011 dishwasher. The dishwasher is quiet, but from the sounds it does make, it seems to run in many many cycles of washing and then draining that each last only about 5 minutes.

I don't remember but I ripped out a "perfectly good" Kenmore Elite dishwasher that came with our house and put in the cheapest Bosch Lowes sells and it does an immensely better job.

I've got a Kenmore dishwasher that has a sensor that runs extra cycles if the dishes are extra dirty.

Dishwashers run through several cycles during the operation. There will be several wash and rinse cycles. The more intense settings you select the more cycles it will call for. In some cases there may be a water heating cycle and a drying cycle as well.
