I wasn't sure if this was the place for this post but here goes. Heading to Vegas in october for SEMA. It's been a bucket list item for awhile and since my employer has a large presence at the show we have weaseled our way in. Now the question, I'm trying to rent a house and I'm not sure what area is where I want to be. I haven't been in vegas in 30 years so if anybody can lend a little guidance as to what neighborhood is a good choice. It would be really good if it was close to the convention center also. We are aiming for something off Paradise Rd if that is a good idea.

Again, any info or guidance will be much appreciated. I am a turner and 40+ year woodworker so any must see woodworking related locations will also be appreciated

I usually stay at Hilton Grand Vacation on the Strip: http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/nevada/hilton-grand-vacations-on-the-las-vegas-strip-LASVSGV/index.html
No casinos and laundry machines / full kitchens within the suites. They'll also have a shuttle to LVCC during the show. Ask for Tower 2, facing away from the Strip.

SEMA is a big show so the hotels on Paradise are likely already booked up by exhibit companies. I know there are a few houses over by McCarran for rent but that show uses a lot of the parking spaces up at LVCC so I'd avoid renting a car to get around.

Pete,
Thanx for the info. There is 5 and maybe 6 of us coming in at different times so a house seemed like the best way to keep everybody happy. We need a car for one day for an event northwest of town on tuesday morning so uber was going to be our method of transportation. If I'm looking for a house reasonably close to the convention center what area works and can I walk in the area?
Thanx again, Greg

Try searching either Paradise or Winchester NV, not Las Vegas. Cheapest places will probably be out in Henderson but that's a bit of a drive from LVCC.

Unless you're right on the Strip there aren't a lot of places to walk.

Our company has a house in Henderson when I was there last there were a few to rent for shows. We will have a lot of people out there for SEMA so our overflow is at the Sunset Station right by the express way.

Definitely try Henderson. I went to a Festool seminar that was held in Henderson and Festool was paying for the hotel. It was the Sunset Station Casino and Hotel. I looked up what it would cost to stay there and it was CHEAP. So cheap that I was afraid it would be a dump and checked other hotels in the area in case we decided we wouldn't stay there (my wife went with me).

But when we got there, the hotel was great. No problems at all. Rooms were big and modern and clean, and there were good restaurants in the hotel/casino. And it's not that far from the strip. You'd need a car or Uber to get between Henderson and Las Vegas, however. Too far to walk.

When we are out there we like Freemount street better than the strip also.
