Felt for drum sander g1066

I just purchased a g1066 the second drum is wrapped in black felt to pad the sand paper. Some of it is missing, what is the best replacement for it? Just felt from craft store or can I buy hook and loop conversion kit and just use the hook layer ad felt. I have 2 rolls of sandpaper I want to use up before I buy more..

Hook and loop from Grizzly. Not too expensive and makes it easier to change paper. My opinion

That is my plan long term but I would like to use up the 2 rolls off paper I have, Could I use normal paper over the hook and loop backer?
