Basement remodel

OK, it's not a fancy basement, and no fine woodworking. This is my project for the past few months - get rid of a 1960's era "Brady Bunch" looking basement. This is used as our exercise/rec room.

Great job Tim. Once upon a time I had the whole basement.. to. Then new additons to the family ... and well I too have a small shop. But as you say at least then you can park your cars inside. Keep us posted on your shop progress.

I've used some of that "fine wood paneling for drawer bottoms for drawers in some shop cabinates in the past and it works realy well.

Vaughn, I agree about the changing times. I'm 45, and I remember when I thought paneling (and shag) was just the coolest thing.

The paneling was the cheap vinyl coated stuff. When I moved in here a few years ago, this house (built in 1969) had real wood (birch?) veneer paneling in the upstairs family room. Actually looked decent, but I replaced that also anyway to lighten things up.

Nice job Tim. I was, like Vaughn, going to make some smart a$$ed remark about loosing that cool, retro paneling. He beat me to it.:(

We took some paneling down several years ago and I was amazed how nice the back of the paneling was. Real high quality birch, I think. I've used it for drawer bottoms and cabinet backs w/ the back of the paneling showing. Maybe that's why good birch ply is so expensive now - it was used as secondary wood on 60's paneling! :(
