I have converted my drill press to variable speed and need to flip the spindle pulley and am not sure how to get it off. The picture shows that it is splined shaft. There is what appears to be a hex head nut. does anyone know how to remove the pulley. I need to flip it so I can use the largest groove. The old pulley is toast and the new one wont go down far enough on the motor shaft to use the big pulleys largest groove

I bet that the splined shaft is your quill and it will move up and down as you use the lever on the drill press for drilling. You probably need to use a strap wrench on the pulley to hold it still and loosen that nut that is holding the pulley in place.

You need to unscrew that nut on the spindle. You could chuck a big allen wrench in the chuck and hold that while unscrewing the nut or as suggested a strap wrench on the pulley or chuck body. If the spindle has slots to remove the chuck arbor a big bar in there might work as well.
i would think the nut is a standard CW thread but check carefully as it may be ccw

It will be CCW threads, I lost 1 and have not been able to find a replacement

Was it metric or USA threads? older dodge cars had CCW lug nuts on one side.

Do you know the size and thread ? https://www.mcmaster.com/#left-hand-threaded-nuts/=1bgk8co .
My copy and paste doesn't take you all the way . look under medium strength thin nuts.
