In the February issue of Fine Woodworking there is an article about ripping on the tablesaw.
I thought I would post this to inspire some you to thinking about it.

I made a wooden insert around the saw slot. I cut a slot for the saw blade by raising the saw blade
up through the wood, thereby cutting a saw slot.

I made a wooden splitter and glued it into the blade slot behind the blade. I did this over ten years ago.
The splitter is still there and still working. I also made a wooden push stick that I keep hanging on the
saw to use when ripping. I made a quick trip to the emergency room one time after almost cutting the
end of my thumb off.

I have had no kickbacks and no thumb cuts since then. Be careful while ripping on a table saw.
I bet there are other stories out there to tell about table saw accidents.

I had a similar setup until I got my Shark Guard. It worked, but I wanted a little more.
If this saw ever craps out, I'll buy somebody's saw with flesh sensing tech - I can't see a reason not to avail myself of it if I can afford it. (And maybe even if I cant.)
