Yes with a K, and its a pretty nice and would be hard to draw logo. I need this Logo and Names engraved on a plastic name tag, can you do? Did I also say it had an usual shape to be cut also. Sure but I need either a high quality BMP image to trace or the digital file in either AI or Corel Draw. Why? It looks just fine, he said.

Or I can re-create the logo at my normal graphics designing fee. So what would you do? This is not a big bucks job.

Get fair payment for what you do.

Had a guy call today and ask if I'd take over one of his customers for Yetis. I said how much are you charging? "$3.00," I said "not interested".

You really only have two choices in my eyes:

1. Take the time to explain it to him, and then see how he wants to proceed once he is "educated". Maybe tell him to try printing the image at 600dpi and the dimensions he wants? So he can see how bad it will probably look. Or point him to some basic resources on graphic design and dpi.

2. Or simply tell him you strongly discourage the use of low quality graphics on engraved pieces, but that if he's willing to pre-pay and sign off on the design you will use his graphic as is if he wishes.

I wouldn't waste any time redesigning a logo from scratch unless he's willing to hire you to do just that.

"can you enlarge this Gif that is currently 50 x 50 pixels and put it on my 8 foot round table top?"

I googled 'various logos', and filtered to 'black/white', and a slew of batch-logos came up. This seemed a good size... there were 9 logos, I kept these four.
They should show actual size when you click on them...

This logo was simple yet not so simple so I chose it-
note even in this thumbnail, it, as Bill's customer says, "looks fine"--
but wait till you click on it and see the 600% version of it, which is only 1000x700 pixels...

And I pasted it into Corel as is; left original, right the traced version... :D

Nope, not going to look good on your 8 foot table!

But then, this doesn't matter to some folks in this business... Like this for example--
This is our Governor on the news one night, and I'm checking out the big Great Seal of Utah behind him--!!

Now that there is a work ofart created by someone just going thru the motions to collect a paycheck, no sense of pride or attention to detail, he/she just traced the logo and printed out the result. Hoe Lee Krap.. Who among us would NOT have taken five minutes of computer time to replace those stupid bumps with ACTUAL STARS!? --Almost as bad? Who signed off on it and paid for it??

"It looks just fine!" ... I'm gonna remember that line ;)

Anyway- I spent 3 or 4 minutes fidgeting with the 175x120 original Blendamatic logo, and without too much trouble I was able to turn it into this--

not perfect by any stretch, but I never touched a node. Customers, beware- touching nodes costs money. :)

Here is the other part, last night at 9pm or so it finally soaks in, and he forwards my email to someone who does the design work for the group. I know the digital file is out there because they have letter heads and door signs and the like.
Kind of what I wanted him to do the day before.

Oh and now he needs it done ASAP and at the best possible price. Don't you just love it!

Kev your finished logo looks very nice!!

$20-25 to trace artwork. I send it overseas and they do the job for $10-15. Problem solved.

Some personal trivia
-it just dawned on me during a commercial that my engraving business is as old as the Super Bowl :)
-as of the last few years-
My 2015 sales figures were our best ever, by about 9% over previous best--
My 2016 sales figures were off from 2015 by about 4%,
But 2017's sales bested 2016's by over 27%...!

--and in the 3 weeks so far this year, sales are equal to 4 weeks worth of LAST year...

Not sure I can keep up this pace, but I got no complaints (other than NO free time) but I have to wonder if part of the reason the work never stops coming in, is because my customers usually get all three :D

(but to be honest, 'fast' is usually the victim!) ;)

I find that If I try and Hurry, I make the most mistakes. I do find myself giving customer as short a time frame as possible. Being out of home works against me that way. Too easy to work weekends.

Anyone wanting that file, PM me with an email and I'll send it to you. Wording was lifted but I reworked layout.
