Well, I finally finished the LOML's Silver Poplar bowl. She calls it her "Lace Bowl" because part of the grain pattern look like a lace collar. This wood is from the wood that Mark Cothren and I harvested earlier this year. This stuff turns really nice and finishes well. Considerably different than turning Yellow Poplar. Anyway, here's a few photo's so you too can see the bowl and the bowl that she seems most proud of that I've turned so far. :D :D

Hi Dennis,
One very, very nice turning. I can see why the LOYL, loves it. The wood just explodes with areas to look at.
I think I will just look at it for a while, thanks for putting up the photo.

Dennis, the curve, inside and out, and foot, makes this design a pleasing one for the eypleasing figure found in this wood. Thanks for showing it to us.

The lace is so cool Dennis!! I'm surprised that there would be such a difference between silver and yellow poplar. Beautiful work sir. And...What a great picture set up!!! I may have to borrow...er...steal your idea!

Good Morning John,

Steal...err...I mean borrow away. Just thought I'd try a little different "backdrop" for a few photo's and see how they would come out. I kinda like it.:D

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. The LOML has it in "her" private collection along with a few other items I've collected from other woodworkers.

BTW, the bowl is 8-5/8" across by 3" deep and is finished with a rubbing of tung oil and bee's wax and buffed.

Dennis,

If the Creekers gave awards for great posts you'd definetly win one for the two you just posted;) Beautiful grain in the bowl. I particularly like the base. Very nice!!
