And of course I'm happy to provide pictures of things I'm proud of making. Here's three pictures embedded of a couple of cutting boards I've made, the rest are available in a directory listed below the 3rd pic. One of them isn't really a cutting board, but an award for a kooky group of fishermen I belong to - it was my first attempt at an inlay - our club logo. This first pic is 244 individual laminations of solid 8/4 maple and mahogany, framed in mahogany and dovetail keyed together.

Here's the rest.....

And...just to be fair....my inspiration...Mrs. Schwingding. See that teak she's sitting on - I've sanded, washed, and bleached that stuff more times than I've brushed my teeth over the years..and I have clean teeth.

Why, thank you very much, Mr. Mike! And regards go to the lovely Mrs. Schwingding. That teak better be clean...she has white pants on it! :D If I ever get down to my friend's place in West River, perhaps we'll see you out on the water...

Hey Mike. Really love the design on those cutting boards! Two things: 1) What combo of woods did you use? 2) I would be honored if you allowed me to "borrow" the concept. Yes/No?

Thanks John. They're not my plans - they came from the Incra Projects book. I have warped and bastardized them a million different ways though.

You may certainly borrow the concept. I put together a pictorial step by step of the entire process, start to finish, but I don't have enough web space to host it. Maybe one of you gents with your own websites would donate some space? I think its less than 5 megs.

This project was the one that really got me going in woodworking. I've probably made 50 of these by now. Every family member has one! I'm working on a design similar to the one that looks like a checkers board that I will submit to Incra for their woodworking contest. Cross your fingers for me.

The woods I use are hard maple, mahogany, and black walnut. I only started using mahogany because it was cheaper than walnut but I really like the results.

I wish you would not have put those pictures on there. They remind me how much inferior my efforts are.
Just kidding of course, you are master at cutting boards and am "grasshopper".
If it hadn't been for you I would not be as far a long as I am now. I've got to stop playing with the lathe and get back to the cutting boards.
I can't seem to stay focused here lately. To many things to do.

Too many things to do.No truer words ever spoken, Don! LOML wants a kitchen island, I'd like to try my hand at these neat cutting boards and now (just yesterday) I drug home a bunch of 14-17" diameter Silver Maple logs...FRESH CUT, no less! Nice thing about cutting boards, though: One has time to do a little turning in between glue-ups.

Thanks again to Mike for posting those truly inspirational pics. I wish I could offer up some web space, but alas, I too don't have any. Hmmmm....I wonder if Keith might not offer up some space for instructional-type procedures for projects?! Might be worth giving him a shout.

John, Mike is quite a nice guy. He had a how to website at one time with step by step instructions on making these beautiful boards. I have tried my hand at it and it came out OK. They are a lot of fun to build.
You spoke of the glue up, HA. I won't ever forget the night I first tried to glue all those little strips. I know now to have everything ready and use a looong open time glue.

It would be MY PLEASURE to host your pictorial on my site. Please contact me privately to make arrangements. I've been looking for "guest authors" to enhance the content and this is the kind of thing that really would be inspirational for many folks.

Very nice cutting boards, Mike. Lovely inspiration you have also. I try not to envy, but I am a nut about boats also. How about a pic of the rest of the boat?

I'd like to thank ALL of the future hosts of my cutting board step by step tutorial! Seriously, thanks guys. I'll zip it up and send it to each of you, as I could never make a choice between any of you - y'all can duke it out on your own <grin>.

I'm off to the beach. Have a nice weekend everyone.
