Ive just put up a new Segmented Turning calculator on blocklayer.com some of you may find interesting.
https://www.blocklayer.com/woodturning-segmentseng.aspx
It just works out the geometry for the segments, with visual animated diagrams so you can see what you end up with.
Im not a wood turner, so any ideas, or if it needs editing, additions or fixing please let me know.

Was wondering if there is a way to get a 2 inch diameter for making Christmas ornaments?

Thanks all. Ive added a few things to the calculator which shouild make it more usefull. Looking at adding calculation for the angled or curved sides of bowls next (larger margins to form the curve) Will take a look at dropping it down to 2 inch diameter soon.

Hi,

the drum makers have this completely covered. Search "stave drum calculator". Many show up. Ornaments- covered... Cost of the shell- covered... How to optimize your wood- covered...

they have fully mature and open source calculators. It's a great resource.

they do need help figuring out how to hold the shells and turn them.
