Anyone use one? I'm talking about the type with the tapered cutters used for end joining shorter boards. I always seem to end with a bunch of shorter boards after a big project and I'd like to be able to recycle them into useful lengths.

Dave, we have a Garniga adjustable FJ cutter. It’s a serious cutter and requires a heavy duty shaper or tenoner to run. I believe Amana has a smaller one that would work in smaller shapers and 4/4 lumber. We can go almost 4” thick with this one. We use it mostly for segmented door and window heads and casings. It makes a strong joint. Sometimes we join 10’ Alder baseboards before running through the moulder so the carpenters don’t have to splice in the field. Alder is tough to source longer than 10
