I was milling down some 8/4 white oak this morning and noticed my Grizzly G0490 jointer motor was making a weird sound. It is squealing and sounds like something is rubbing inside it. If you look through the vents, it appears to be running slightly off center or out of balance. I do not know much about electric motors. Does anyone know what could be causing this? The first video is it running and then coasting down to a stop. The second one is me spinning it by hand. It is almost 3 years old, so out of warranty now. I took the cover off and could see the shaft moving in and out slightly. I loosened everything up and re-aligned and re-tensioned the belt. That seems to have take care of it. It may have been loose enough that it was putting weird stress against it.

Jason,

I have a G0490X. The set screws on pulleys of these things are notorious for being loose allowing the pulley to slip and/or move. When I took delivery, I took the time to remove all set screws and reinstall with some blue loc-tite. (small screw -removeable thread-locker). I have not had any problems but a lot of members here have.
