View Full Version : Clean those cartridge filters!

I had an unusually dramatic morning while sanding some doors this morning. One of my two Oneida cartridge filters blew up! I was using my double drum sander, so the fine flour type dust probably loaded up to the point where the back pressure popped the filter out and open. Dust billowed through the return air as I waited for the just-fed door to clear the second drum.

The filter was about 4 years old - probably pushing its life span anyway. Oneida is sending a filter pressure gauge with the new filter (Don't ask how much it costs to ship one cross country via UPS RED!) I plan to replace the other filter sometime next year, just to keep on hand as a spare - much cheaper than another business stoppage. They said this was the first time they had heard of this happening. These filters have performed well, but keep in mind that they have a finite life span and need to be blown down regularly (More regularly than had been my habit, obviously).
