Hey guys, does 1k sound like a good deal for a 1624 with DVR upgrade on craigslist? Trying to decide if it is worth the drive to go look at it.

Yes if it fits what you turn. The Nova on sale is $800ish and the upgrade is another 5-600. If it comes with anything else that's a plus too. I use that set up and really like it. Lot's of expandability with that lathe too.

I have been waiting around saving money for jet 1642 or a nova galaxi or saturn, maybe a laguna. Feel like im a ways off in cash yet. This one would likely do what I wanted with those others, mostly bowl turning. DVR used makes me a bit nervous, seems like it might be the best way to get something soon though.

I was looking at moving to the Laguna lathe a couple of years ago. Due to cash available being short I up graded my Nova with the DVR motor upgrade . It was a practical and good decision for me. Do not be afraid to consider the lathe your checking out .
