This 4" x 9.5" Sapele w/ Lacquer finish vase was all hand carved only power tool was the lathe and a small drill for holes to start the coping saw blade w/ a tape handle.

I agree, very nice!

"That musta taken a couple of hours to do." (the words of a deacon commenting on a 20 minute video that two of us had just spent 50 hours editing) :)

The eyes are led nicely upwards beautifully evoking motion and flame. I like the space on the "back". Yikes, I see satan's face in the space, smiling at me!

Good design and well executed, Bruce. I have turned a piece or two of sapele and didn’t care for its texture. You did a good job with the surface. Only thought I had was to have the top band be somewhat proud of the interior surface of the tendrils to add to the illusion of the tendrils wrapping over the rim.

Thank you Ken, JKJ,JK and Tom...It was about month of evenings sitting in my chair carving & sanding between watching TV shows.

Well done! Nice finish on it too, even in the concavities between the flames. I think that would have challenged me (along with the hand carving obviously!) It turned out great.

Wow. That is pretty impressive. It looks like it took a long time to carve. I wouldn't have the patience to complete such a project even if I had the skill.
