Had some left over from the last few projects....some 3/4" and some 1/2" x 8" wide clear poplar....:D

Had to make do with out any hinges...bead details hide a secret...

Look for a 45 degree saw cut.....

Hand cut through dovetails on the corners. Bead details were with a Stanley #45 using a single bead #23 cutter
Bottom is 1/2" thick Poplar, rebated to fit into 1/4" deep grooves. Same grooves the lid slides in. Couple of coats of Amber Shellac.
Close the lid, and hopefully the joint disappears..

Just cleaning out the cut-off bin....:D

Really like using slide top boxes. With the nice dovetails and double beading you have enough shop elegance for you to enjoy .....without having to worry about any womenfolk confiscating it for jewelery.

Very nice project and use of some great "left-over" material! And a sliding top is just fine. There was a time when hinges were not a possibility for makers and this method provides a positive closing and captive top to a nice looking box.
