I have to whitewash/pickle some red oak doors to match some exsiting cabents , I found some Minwax waterbase that seems to come very close to matching , I have test tryed it on a peice but it looks kind of blotchy, Is there somthing I need to do to even this stuff out?

Ray,
When I pickled the stereo cab that is on my web site, I lightly wiped the finish out to eleminate any uneven/blotchy areas. The unit is also red oak.
Hope you raised the grain first, then knocked the fuzz off with light sanding.

For this finish, I use a small amount of oil based white paint in BLO, wipe on and off, let dry, and finish as desired thereafter. Perhaps a teaspoon to about 2 oz. or so, but you will need to experiment on scrap for the match you are seeking. I call this a 50's look, and use it only when needing to match something else.
