I did not want to hijack the planer lube thread so. I know that silicone lubes can cause fisheye and other problems with wood finishes. Is synthetic oil silicone based? will it cause problems.
I like to use synthetic oil for lubing slow speed gears etc because it has no vapor pressure and will not dry out and from glue to make taking things apart harder.

I'd use gear oil, no need for synthetic. Your gearbox does not run hot and is not demanding of oil. If it's in your gearbox no need to worry. If oil hits your wood during the milling stage, any oil is bad.
