I turned a cherry bowl the other day and filled two splits with sawdust and epoxy. After finish turning I decided to use mineral oil for the finish. All looked great for a day...... then it started! The epoxy seems to bubble up and push its way out of the crack I filled. Funny thing is not all of the expoxy is soft or at least not yet. I did mix it well and it had cured before the mineral oil was put on.

Any ideas?

I like the way mineral oil looks and I still will need to fill voids and cracks from time to time....... with something.

I fill my cracks (or any other void) with CA and sawdust. Since I do lots of segmented glue-ups, this technique is very handy. I've not had problems with any of the finishes that I've tried...

Hope that helps,

Dennis

I have only used the epoxy method a few times on cracks. and had no problems as you describe.
Big Mike told me he uses it a lot maybe he will chime in with a similar experience?
