A year or so ago we raised the bed up on a platform...primarily to keep the cats from killing things underneath. Result of that was the cocker not being able to jump up from the wood floor...and heaven forbid LOML's dog can't get in the bed. This is a little bench I made as a prototype when I was building the dining room and couldn't decide on a design. It'll go at the foot of the bed for me sit on while dressing, and for Princess to use as a step. Cherry, curly maple spindles, ebony plugs. Only finish I put on was WATCO, since it'll have claw marks all over it by Friday. If I outlive the dog, perhaps I'll put a proper finish on it someday.

Beautiful bench Kirk. I am guessing you used mortise and tenon. The ebony plugs pin the tenon in place.
