Had "Bigger fish to fry" Hand saw for a dollar bill...
369632
26" Skew back, 8ppi crosscut that is still wicked SHARP...:D
Couple of metal planes..for $4..
369633
Millers Falls #900 and an all steel block plane...and a couple of woodies...
369634
Just over 9-1/2" long, with 1-5/8" wide irons. Tapered iron have chipbreakers.....neither uses a bolt to connect to the iron. That "adjuster"?
369635
Only retracts the iron. No lateral. Iron has a pin that fits into the bolt's head. Other end has a couple of square nuts, that push against a slot in the body.
$4 for the pair. Logo? Well there is that "eye" at the top, followed by..
369636
Goldenberg....Auger Fondu A Garantie
Both bodies will need a bit of work, to fix a few cracks, one which has a nail in it. One sole is not 90 degrees to the sides...not a biggie. Irons will need a bit of work, grind a straight edge, or leave cambered?
Logo on the saw..
369637
Not too bad of a morning?

Not bad, not bad at all. If I recall correctly, Goldenberg was later absorbed into an international (European) company that included Bahco, Sandvik, and Stanley of England. This plane, though, most likely predates that period.

Near as I can tell, by the logo on the iron...1875?

Was hard to see the "i".....Augier Fondu ( cast steel) Warantie ( warranted)

Logo has a single eyeball at the top..

Thank you...it was hard to read on mine..
369645
Slot on this one cut up almost the entire logo....other than the single eyeball..
369647
Have one with an adjuster, the other one does not. Unable to read the three lines of markings on the toe, as well....

One has a cambered edge to the iron....scrub plane? Or, just straighten the curves out?

And, NO, I haven't check the bed angle..either...

Afraid both of mine are double iron planes.....
369652
Neither use a bolt to hold the two irons together...

OK, other than shine the hardware on the saw, that is about all I need to do to it...
The Shelton Steel block plane..
369654
Cleaned up rather nicely, considering I couldn't remove any of the knobs....
369656
Not sure how "flat" this sole should be...
369658
Seems to work just fine...
The Millers Falls #900?
369659
Tote has been repaired. Maybe at a later date, I'll sand and refinish ( black paint..yuck) the handles...
369660
Iron isstamped as a Millers Falls of Greenfield, MASS USA...
Tried one of the woodies..
369661
About as good as I can get it....
369662
Ugly? I have a donor Beech body...will cut a chunk out, and make a new body for this plane....this one had too much wrong with it....twists, sole was WAY out of flat, wasn't even close to 90 degrees to the sides... Couple of cracks in the wrong places....and no room for any lateral adjustments...

Depending on how this turns out, then I'll see about the other woody....stay tuned

Those two french woodies are beyond my skill set to rehab.....1875 wood bodies are mainly just worn out. I don't have enough stock to make a new pair of bodies. Might just make these two Shelf-Sitters.....They were only $2 a piece....no biggie....unless someone else want s try their luck ( you'll need a bunch of it..) at rebuilding these two...

Saw is a Richardson Bros No. 8. Skew back, 8ppi, filed crosscut. 26" long. That "Extra rivet" at the bottom of the handle is slightly smaller at the heads. Can Make out (barely ) the trade marks on the Maltese Cross,,,,"R" then B E S T around the cross's arms. Still work on a better view of what is left of the etch....$1 saw?

As a side note: there were two other saws on the tables, A Disston D-8 that had seen way too many sharpenings, and a WS with a D-23 like handle....already had better versions at the shop.

Pictures of the cleaned up saw...
369791
All cleaned up. WD40 wiped on, to keep the rust-bunnies at bay..
369792
Medallion bolt must be in a different time zone....note the bottom "extra rivet" size...
369793
Doubt IF I will try to repair the top horn, doesn't seem to bother the hand.
Will be going in to the saw til, right beside the D-8, and will be a solid user.

I gave up on the one plane...would need a whole new body. Haven't the wood, nor the motivation right now for that...

Decided to try the other woody...
369863
Cleaned and sharpened these....chipbreaker needed flattened on this end....big old curve had been beatened into it.
Sole was flattened....still has "issues"
369864
Wedge is a might slick, will need a bit more work..
369865
Kind of lopsided, too...
369866
Once across a board,I had to readjust the setting, due to this slipping a bit..
369867
Still needs work...

I do have a bit of Hard Maple left over.....maybe make a new wedge from that? Logo on the chipbreaker is hidden when the plane is assembled....both logos face each other...Haven't found anything about a Somborn & Comp.....

May try to give the Shelton #18 a paint job.....but I will need to mask the knobs, to do so. Unable to remove any of the three.
