Any recommendations? I really like the Mirka Roundy, but I don't think that is available in the States. Only other I've found is a square bottom Festool.

JR> I have a Festool orbital, so I'm not really looking for anything powered (unless I missed a hand sander at your link)

Kyle> Can't find a US source for that

Gotcha. I didn't look closely enough at that roundy. Mirka has this block available from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Mirka-MVHB35-Faced-Multi-Hole-Vacuum/dp/B01GV2X9PS/

Supergrit.com

Click on Mirka vacuum hand sanding block. $54 bucks for a block, vac hose and systainer 2, plus shipping of course. They have fairly good prices on Abranet abrasives and the shipping is reasonable. I wanted the smaller mirka block linked above but the 2 3/4 by 7 13/16 works just fine. Thats a good price from Amazon also on the smaller one.

Amazon has the block, although I do admit I didn't press the "buy" button...... I got mine at our Woodcraft tent sale.

Yea I went with the Festool 496962 (LINK (http://www.festoolproducts.com/festool-496962-hand-sanding-block-80mm-x-130mm.html)) because I couldnt find anything better and because it shares paper with my Festool RTS 400 EQ sander.

I was finishing off a series of bow-fronted drawers. These were planed, scraped, and then sanded with the Mirka hand sander ..

The following is from a blog (http://www.inthewoodshop.com/Furniture/FinishingTheDrawers.html) on my website:

"The sanding was quick: I ran through 120/220/400 grit. The Abranet grits are amazing. With the vacuum cleaner connected, it is extremely efficient. There is no waste dust to clog up the sander to slow things down, and an Abranet sheet, itself, lasts and lasts.

But even 400 grit is not as clear as the scraped finish (below), and the reason why I scraped after refining the surface with sanding.

My preference when sanding is to roughly double the next grit in the sequence. Consequently, I went 120/220/400. The Abranet/Mirka mesh really is superb. It lasts many, many times longer than anything I imagine you have used. You owe it to yourself to try out what I show here. I think that you will be so impressed that you will not go back. It is not expensive. The sander was around $25. The Abranet mesh stays sharp, and you can jump grits as I do."
