shellawax cream over stained turnings

I have turned a base and finial for a hollow form I am working on. They are made from walnut and stained with an Ebony oil base stain. I planed on using Shellawax cream as a friction polish but is says not to use on oil base stains. Has anyone tried this and did it work. Would a sander sealer before the polish help.

Dewaxed shellac should seal the oil based stain sufficiently to permit any finish to be applied over it.
