This is some of the same Elm I have turned other, bright yellow bowls from. This was the piece of the trunk closest to the root and it has been sitting off the ground in my wood pile for several months. I assume part of this rich, dark color is spalting - but I dunno.

Anyway, it's some very neat wood. I have one more piece of it left. I'm gonna post a few pics of it b/c it looks different in the light just about every way you turn it.

7-5/8" wide, 3-1/4" tall, 5/16" walls (just a bit thicker in the bottom - I did that on purpose  :o )

Absolutely beautiful Mark. One of my elms had to come down this summer and it had the same dark heartwood throughout. I'm looking forward to turning some of it next year.....Especially after seeing what you've done with it!!!

Gorgeous, MArk, Just Gorgeous!

Fantastic piece - love the changes as you rotate it!

Also love how you make the foot on these bowl - you've got your trademark there!

Another absolutely beautiful bowl. As has been said already, your foot/bottom treatment has become your trademark.
